Intro To Lindy Hop (4 Week Course)

Mondays, 7pm - 8pm

Introductory Course

£30pp Prebook Only

Ready to take your first steps into the world of swing? No partner or experience required!

Join us for our INTRO TO LINDY HOP monthly course, exploring the mother of all swing dances - the Lindy Hop. Created and pioneered by black dancers in Harlem in the late 1920s, Lindy Hop is a partnered swing dance which evolved alongside the swinging jazz rhythms of the time. Characterised by its rhythms and “breakaway” from conventional closed hold dances that came before it, Lindy Hop is joyful expression of the music that shares its history.

Over four weeks, we will cover the basic Lindy Hop rhythms, including 6-count, 8-count and partnered Charleston. We will explore the concept of pulse and groove along with the dynamics of leading and following to help you express yourself as a dancer both individually and within a partnership. All content will be taught within the context of the cultural history of jazz and swing, paying respect to the black originators and innovators of this art form.

Jessie and Benjie couldn’t have introduced this dance to me better - they really took a good care of everything, and the classes were well structured but also such a good fun. You basically learn to dance before you know it.

I’ve dabbled in Lindy Hop lessons over the years as I love to dance, but having two left feet it never stuck - until I met Jessie! Her classes are a good mix of easy to learn instruction and plenty of fun. Jessie has made Mondays a fun place to be, and her enthusiasm for teaching and Lindy Hop never fail to get you up and trying new moves. I’m looking forward to seeing where the adventures in class take us next.
